Hermance Mees

Welcome to the site of Hermance Mees. In 1957 I was born in Rotterdam. Later I studied there in the evening at the Academy of Art while studying history of art in Leiden.

I  let myself be inspired by the people , animals and nature around me. Living near the Braassemer lake, I like  to try to take down in watercolors the ever changing impressions of light, sky and water. The orchard with very old apple trees from my parents’ house is a big inspiration to me. I love to paint with watercolor paint,  often in combination with ink and chalk. 

I make commisioned portraits and also used to make woodcuts from birds, using  the grain of the wood. .I love to work with wax and clay and got commissioned several times to make sculptures, plaques and medals.
